FAQ

What is spawnd?

spawnd is a web-based gaming tool that lets players instantly try premium PC game demos: no lengthy downloads, no installations. Think of it as YouTube for game demos: just click and play. Our goal is to boost visibility, wishlist conversions, and ultimately sales for high-quality games — especially on Steam — by making the demo experience seamless, fast, and easily shareable. Why are we starting with game demos?

Demos offer a low-risk, high-reward way to validate spawnd’s potential, showcase visibility tools, and prove that browser-based distribution can convert into additional wishlists and full-game sales without the risks of porting a full game.

Why are we only allowing players to play in fullscreen?

Deeper and engaging gaming happens mostly in fullscreen experiences (especially with larger screens). Think how consoles treat this. Even Steam defaults to fullscreen gaming experiences. And the reason is very straightforward, gaming on these platforms are better experienced without distractions.

Most web-gaming websites have a different purpose, looking to be quick time-killers with a multitude of simpler (mostly shovelware) games whose aim is to keep users switching games and generating add revenues.

It’s like comparing Netflix to YouTube. With Netflix most often being a choice for large screen TVs in comfortable settings (couch, bed) while YouTube/TikTok being ideal for quick videos on-the-go (doctor's waiting room). Both platforms are great, but serve a purpose for different occasions.

Are there any costs or fees to apply or join?

There are no costs or fees for selected studios to participate, spawnd is completely free! Not only that, but also server costs for game hosting (such as CDNs for addressables) and bandwidth are also fully covered by us.

Do I need to port my demo myself?

Yes, studios are expected to port their own demos, however the Nuuvem team will be available for support during this stage through our Discord server. Additionally make sure to check our porting guides section in the menu on the left for tips and solutions for common porting issues.

What kind of games is spawnd looking for?

spawnd is focusing on high quality games and engaging experiences targeting PC / Steam gamers, which means desktop core gaming experiences.

At the moment spawnd is not accepting casual, hyper-casual & F2P games or games targeting primarily mobile devices. Read more about our selection criteria here.

What are the basic requirements for the demo?

Demos are only expected to run smoothly in desktop chromium-based desktop browsers (ie. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge).

Mobile or webkit based browsers compatibility (ie. Safari) is not a requirement at this time (but is always welcome ;)). Read more about our requirements here.

Will I need to sell my game on Nuuvem or sign a publishing deal?

Not at all! Participation on spawnd does not involve any distribution or publishing deal with Nuuvem (though we do love meeting new awesome studios and publishers!). Your game, your rules.

When did spawnd launch?

spawnd went live on Sep 2025! Go check it out at spawnd.gg.

Why are we not including/focusing on mobile for now?

Mobile devices have in fact been becoming quite powerful and currently have the largest gaming audience in the world. However, mobile devices have become a destination for casual and hyper-casual games (that usually are played in short sessions). These lead to simpler games that are often very quick to download and try and are mostly free-to-play by nature.

Web gaming on mobile is also not something new, with YouTube and others experimenting with the format as playable ads and instant demos.

In contrast, desktop gaming remains quite cumbersome, requiring downloads, installs and some level of preparation to be enjoyed.

While we do believe spawnd should be usable on a mobile device (the platform is responsive from its inception), we feel that spawnd's true value lies in high quality and more immersive playing experiences (longer session times), such as those that Steam and console games better provide.
